Former federal prosecutor and legal pundit Andrew McCarthy said Thursday that he thinks a “clemency package” for both President-elect Donald Trump and First Son Hunter Biden could be in the works to solve some of their legal woes.

As we’ve reported, Special Counsel Jack Smith is trying to wrap up his federal cases against the president-elect before he takes office in January. Longstanding department policy dictates that a sitting president can’t be prosecuted, so they’ve got to act quickly.

Meanwhile, Hunter Biden faces his own legal woes. The question all along for many has been, will his dad pardon him? McCarthy thinks there’s a good chance:

Special counsel Jack Smith is reportedly closing down his cases against Trump, whom he indicted on allegations of mishandling classified material and over his challenges to the 2020 election. McCarthy said that dropping the cases against Trump could enable President Joe Biden to pardon his son, Hunter, who was convicted on federal gun charges and who pleaded guilty to federal tax charges.

McCarthy thinks a deal is close to fruition:

“I also think from what I can gather that sort of a deal is coming together because everyone understands that President Biden is going to pardon his son Hunter. That is not going to go down well — at least if it’s in a vacuum because, of course, he vowed he wouldn’t do it, not that anyone took that too seriously,” McCarthy said on “Fox and Friends.” “But I think it goes down easier for the country if it’s kind of like a clemency package where the Biden-Harris Justice Department dismisses the two cases against former President Trump, President-elect Trump, because they can’t be prosecuted at this point anyhow. He will be the sitting president of the United States. Then Biden pardons Hunter.”

McCarthy thinks a deal would send a message that it’s time for this politicized (Democrat) weaponization of our law enforcement institutions to come to an end:

“I think the signal that sends hopefully to these progressive prosecutors at the state level is that, you know, it’s time to turn the page from lawfare, which proved to be a disaster for the Democrats, I think, in the election,” McCarthy said.

“Fox and Friends” co-host Steve Doocy said Biden pardoning Trump could make a pardon of Hunter Biden “more palatable” for the country.

“The other thing that is important here in dismissing the case, so you dismiss it at the Justice Department level rather than having to pardon the incoming president, which is almost like an admission of guilt that Trump doesn’t want to make,” McCarthy said. “If they dismiss it and it’s the Biden-Harris Justice Department that dismisses it. I think the judge goes along with it more easily. Whereas if Trump’s Justice Department has to dismiss the case, they may get pushback from Judge Chutkan.”

It will be interesting to see what unfolds. New York Attorney General Letitia James has already indicated she will continue with her obsession over Trump and try to “get” him, but Jack Smith and the DOJ have largely failed in their efforts. It’s time for them to admit defeat and move on.

And then Trump can come in and bulloze the whole department.
