The US House of Representatives rejected an effort to block or heavily amend the reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. By a vote of 259-128, with ten percent of the House not voting, Florida Representative Ana Paulina Luna’s motion to force another vote on the FISA reauthorization came up short.

The vote to reconsider the FISA bill lost nearly 100 votes, falling short of the opposition’s high mark of 100 on Friday.
There is no way of sugar-coating this. Reauthorizing Section 702, particularly with some of the draconian changes made during this process, is a grave danger to civil liberties.
The bill is headed back to the Senate, where quick action is expected.
