TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama board of trustees is set to meet Friday with the intention of making retired coach Nick Saban a permanent fixture of the school’s football stadium. A special meeting will address “consideration of resolution approving a naming at Bryant-Denny Stadium at UA.”

A ceremony to dedicate the new field name is expected to be held on Sept. 7 in conjunction with the South Florida game, according to multiple reports.

Saban, who retired in January, won six national championships in 17 seasons at Alabama and had a 108-9 record at home during his career. He’s now working as an analyst for ESPN and will contribute to college football coverage this fall.

Additionally, Saban holds an advisory role at Alabama with an office at Bryant-Denny Stadium, which will soon don his name on the field.

“I think on behalf of everyone with Alabama football and the University of Alabama, we appreciate everything Coach has done to make this foundation strong to where we can continue to build on it,” new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said at SEC media days. “(We) just appreciate all those years and hard work that’s been put into this.”
