Mercedes-Benz allegedly deliberated over the choice for months due to fears of geopolitical and trade ramifications. By Stewart Burnett

In a possibly-controversial first, Mercedes-Benz has chosen Chinese-made LiDAR technology from the supplier, Hesai, for use in its vehicles in global markets. A source with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters on 11 March that the automaker had deliberated over the choice for months, given the potential geopolitical ramifications.
