Finding dirt on your car in the Columbus area? NWS explains why and where it came from

Central Ohioans who woke up to dirt on their cars this weekend weren’t alone.

Meteorologists have reported reporting that dirty rain has left a residue or coating on cars in Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia.

The cause of the residue was dust from the southwest and southern plains region of the United States, according to a post Friday on the Facebook page for the U.S. National Weather Service’s Charleston, West Virginia location.

The dust arrived in the central Ohio region and was brought down with falling rain, according to the NWS.

Drier conditions are moving in today, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio. Rain is not forecast in the Columbus area for the next week.
