South Africa, once a prosperous nation, is descending into chaos. The country’s government is an incompetent kleptocracy, and their white minority, including families that have been in South Africa for centuries, are facing ever-increasing attacks and legal discrimination, up to and including outright seizure of their land and other property. The Trump administration is, according to the president and Secretary of Agriculture Booke Rollins, offering these actual refugees a home in the United States, with an expedited path to citizenship.

Secretary Rollins’ X post reads in full:

The strong tradition of South African agriculture, ranching, and conservation goes back centuries, and reflects above all else the Afrikaner devotion to land and heritage. Pioneers in the best tradition, they made gardens of the wilderness and transformed their country into the breadbasket of a continent.

Our President’s vision is the right one: this is the sort of immigrant we want, and if the South African regime now — kleptocratic, anarchic, and increasingly incompetent — does not want this historic class of entrepreneurs, then America does.

President Trump’s full statement:

South Africa is beng terrible, plus, to long time Farmers in the country. They are confiscating LAND and FARMS, and MUCH WORSE THAN THAT. A bad place to be right now, and we are stopping all Federal Funding. To go a step farther, any Farmer (with family!) from South Africa, seeking to flee that country for reasons of safety, will be invited into the United States of America with a rapid pathway to Citizenship. This process will begin immediately!

I spent two weeks in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2010, back in my jacket-and-tie days. It was an eye-opener. One of the things I enjoyed about traveling in those days was the chance to go walkabout on the weekends, to see the culture, to talk with people, to try the local foods, and just to see things. Not in South Africa. The Afrikaner couple that ran the B&B we were put up in cautioned us against leaving the compound, which was surrounded by an 8-foot wall topped with electrified barbed wire. The pharmaceutical plant we were there to audit was similarly surrounded. We were put on a bus every morning, driven to the plant, then driven back in the evening. I remember our daily route sometimes — we took a different route every day — took us past a used-car dealership which, we saw, was not only fenced in but patrolled by a guard. An armed guard with a submachine gun.

That was 15 years ago. Things have gotten worse since then.

Trump Imposes Sanctions on South Africa Over Racist Law and Encourages Afrikaners to Immigrate to America

This isn’t a phenomenon unique to South Africa. White farmers in Zimbabwe were displaced under the dictator Mugabe; I have met and spoken with a couple of people so dispossessed, and they were glad to escape with their lives from the country they thought of as Rhodesia.

President Trump is doing the right thing by offering the South Africans a refuge in the United States. These people, white or otherwise, are actual refugees seeking legitimate asylum. Their lives are in no-kidding danger if they stay where they are. And, once the refugees have fled, the United States would be likewise correct in cutting off any and all aid to South Africa. Racism is racism, no matter what the melanin content of the people being unfairly discriminated against, and South Africa’s government today is, if anything, a more virulently racist government than it ever was in the days of apartheid.

Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left’s lies, new legislation wasn’t needed to secure our border, just a new president.
