The last scheduled weekend closure for the Interstate 17 pavement improvement project begins Friday night on a stretch of the southbound lanes between State Route 74 and Loop 303 in north Phoenix, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
ADOT confirmed the closure will last from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday. The closure is among several that ADOT officials announced were scheduled during the weekend.
To avoid the closure, southbound drivers are advised to detour west on State Route 74 to southbound Lake Pleasant Parkway and use eastbound Loop 303 to return to the I-17.
The ADOT pavement project began last May to remove the top layer of asphalt pavement and diamond grinding the concrete pavement beneath. Recent work has focused on replacing steel bridge deck joints that span the width of the freeway.
“The improvement work has created a safer, smoother and longer lasting surface along six miles of I-17 north of Happy Valley Road,” the department said on its website.
