Chuck Schumer Files Hurt Feelings Report After Leavitt Leveled Him Over Toronto Plane Crash Blame Games

As RedState reported Tuesday, Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) boxed himself into a corner in remarks made on the terrifying crash of the Delta jet that happened Monday at Toronto’s Pearson Airport.





Miraculously, all 76 passengers and four crew members survived despite the plane awkwardly landing during bad weather and losing a wing, causing it to roll upside down on the tarmac.

While everyone on board making it out alive was welcome news, Schumer’s .02, in which he blamed the Trump administration’s “layoffs” of what Schumer described on the Twitter/X machine as “FAA safety specialists” was not, with White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt responding accordingly by correctly pointing out 1) the plane was in Canadian airspace, 2) Canadian ATC oversaw the landing, and 3) ATC here in the U.S. had not been fired.

Leavitt, as we also reported, has also pushed back on false reporting by “news” outlets like the Associated Press, observing that “No air traffic controllers nor any professionals who perform safety critical functions were terminated.”

Further, there is the possibility that pilot error was involved, as my colleague Bonchie talked about Tuesday.

In any event, despite the record being set straight, and despite Sec. of Transportion Sean Duffy indicating that “the Transportation Safety Board of Canada will lead the investigation” (with the FAA being en route to assist), Schumer kept at it, lying through his teeth in the process in a floor speech made Wednesday:

“Just weeks after the deadliest plane crash in a long time…President Trump has fired hundreds of FAA workers, including air safety personnel. Firing people whose very job it is to keep air travel safe is nothing short of reckless.” 

“The White House accused us of linking the crash of the Minneapolis flight directly with FAA cuts in staffing. Nothing could be further from the truth. I simply said that when there are fewer FAA personnel, the skies are less safe. Does Donald Trump deny that there are fewer FAA staffers? Does Donald Trump deny that when he fires FAA workers, including workers who focus on safety, it makes travel less safe?” 

“Here are more facts: Donald Trump and @elonmusk have fired hundreds of FAA staffers, including safety specialists, the very people who keep our skies safe.”

Except the receipts show that linking the Trump administration’s “cuts” to the crash is exactly what Schumer did:

Schumer has a lot of nasty habits, and telling whoppers about things he’s previously said in plain English is one of them, as we saw when he threatened conservative Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh in March 2020 when he warned “You have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price! You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions!”

After outrage ensued, he claimed during a Senate floor speech the next day that he was referring to reelection prospects for Trump and Senate Republicans.

“My point was that there would be political consequences, political consequences for President Trump and Senate Republicans if the Supreme Court, with the newly confirmed justices, stripped away a woman’s right to choose,” Schumer proclaimed at the time.





Basically, the default position for everyone should be that whenever Schumer speaks he’s going to be dishonest. The examples cited in this piece are just two of many. Now if only we could get the lamestream media to objectively fact-check him as well, that would be great. But until then…
