Ruben Amorim has drafted in players from Manchester United’s academy for training this week amid injury and illness “issues” in his first team.

The Portuguese could be facing a reshuffle of his squad for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Tottenham Hotspur after what he called “problems” during the week.

Amorim refused to identify which players could now be doubts with further assessments to come.

“(It) was a good week until two days ago, we had some problems,” he said. “We don’t have players back, maybe we have one or two issues, we are waiting. We have one player who is sick, we will see on the weekend.”

The likes of Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans and Mason Mount are all working their way back to fitness after time out of the team.

Asked if the issues were setbacks to players recovering from injuries, Amorim replied: “Yes. We will see at the weekend.”

Amorim was asked specifically about Chido Obi Martin, the 17-year-old former Arsenal forward, who has been impressing for the club’s Under-18s side in recent months and scored a hat-trick in the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday.

“I don’t want to say names,” he said. “We have to be careful on that. We have problems this week, we called some young players to be in our training. We have some data evaluation. He is one of them.”

Sunday’s game sees two of the Premier League’s under-pressure managers meet with the two sides 13th and 14th in the table heading into the weekend.

Ange Postecoglou is under increasing scrutiny after exiting both domestic cup competitions in a matter of days over the last fortnight.

“I’m a huge fan of Ange,” Amorim said of his opposite number. “I am a different culture, all Portuguese adapt.

“We are not winning games. I understand the connection between me and Ange, we are having problems. All due respect we are in a bigger club. He wants to play football in the right way.”
