West Ham United technical director Tim Steidten has left the club, it has been announced.
Steidten was placed in charge of the club’s player recruitment strategy and scouting department following his arrival in 2023 having previously worked at Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen.
Steidten did not enjoy the best relationship with manager David Moyes, nor successor Julen Lopetegui, before both men departed. He has now followed with the club confirming the move in a statement.
The Athletic previously reported in January he was set to depart with the terms of his exit in the process of being finalised.
“West Ham United Football Club can confirm that technical director Tim Steidten will be leaving the club,” a West Ham statement read.
“Tim has been instrumental in our recruitment efforts. With the arrival of our new head coach Graham Potter, who has brought in his own head of recruitment, it is time for Tim to pursue new opportunities.
“We would like to thank Tim for his dedication and hard work and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
Steidten was told he could not enter the club’s first-team dressing room at Rush Green or the London Stadium in May before in December The Athletic reported he was staying away from the club’s training ground to focus on the transfer window.
Following Potter’s appointment in January, Steidten returned to the training ground but Potter was soon joined by his long-term head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay, who enquiries for Steidten were already being directed towards prior to today’s announcement.
During his first West Ham transfer window in the summer of 2023, Steidten helped to bring in Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez and Konstantinos Mavropanos.
Ahead of this season, West Ham recruited Max Kilman, Crysencio Summerville, Carlos Soler, Niclas Fullkrug, Luis Guilherme, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jean-Clair Todibo, Guido Rodriguez and Wes Foderingham.
West Ham are currently 15th in the Premier League table and next face Brentford on February 15.
