NEW YORK — It appears that New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby has avoided serious injury, but it is still unclear when he will return to action.
Anunoby left Saturday’s loss against the Los Angeles Lakers early in the third quarter with a non-contact injury that the team is calling a “right foot sprain.” On Monday, prior to the Knicks’ matchup against the Rockets, New York head coach Tom Thibodeau said that Anunoby is day-to-day and that his availability will be dependent upon “how he responds to treatment.”
Thibodeau told reporters Saturday after the loss to the Lakers that Anunoby had an X-ray on the foot and it came back negative. Anunoby underwent an MRI on Sunday, league sources told The Athletic.
Anunoby, despite having an extensive injury history, has been the most available Knick this season. The team’s highest-paid player has played in all 49 games to date and is averaging a career-high 36.3 minutes per game. Anunoby has only played in 60-plus games in a season once since the 2020-21 season while with Toronto.
Last season, Anunoby dealt with an elbow injury that the team initially indicated would be a day-to-day issue. But eventually it led to surgery and forced Anunoby to miss a month.
