Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has been speaking about defender Lloyd Kelly’s future at the club.
Kelly only joined Newcastle in the summer as a free agent after leaving Bournemouth, though he has been limited to only seven starts in 13 appearances.
The Athletic previously reported that Newcastle rejected an £11million ($13.5m) bid from Turkish club Fenerbahce for Kelly.
“I think it’s a slightly different situation with Lloyd,” said Howe. “I’ve seen a little bit of the speculation on Lloyd. We’ve certainly not had any bid anywhere close to making the club make a decision on that.
“Lloyd’s an integral part of what we’re doing from my perspective. His challenge is to try and work his way into the team. He’s only just arrived, so I think he’s got a lot to achieve here.”
Kelly is not the only player that could be leaving St. James’ Park. The Athletic reported earlier this month that Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United were working to reach an agreement to re-sign Miguel Almiron.
Howe said that Almiron had been “brilliant” in training but acknowledged that he could still believe before the end of the window.
As for incomings? “You never say never, so I’m not saying that,” said Howe. “But in this moment, as we stand, we’ve not been active in terms of incomings.”
