“I think it’s finally hitting everybody,” Johnni Combs said.

Several Middletown residents told News Center 7 that they watched Vance grow up.

“As a matter of fact, I drove his bus for two years, 7th and 8th grade,” Connie Hamilton said.

Vance is the first millennial Vice President. He graduated from Middletown City Schools in 2003.

“I just noticed like a week ago or, so I was in the same high school at the time he was,” Combs said.

The City of Middletown and Middletown City Schools congratulated Vance on social media Monday.

“Vance’s journey, from his roots in Middletown through his career as an author, veteran, and U.S. Senator, highlights the diverse potential of our students. His ascent to the vice presidency is a moment of distinction for Middletown City School District and an example that Middies will rise to achieve anything they put their minds to,” the district said.
