Pensacola area begins to shut down: Cancellations spread across area

As the odds increase of significant snow fall and temperatures that could dip into the teens early next week, Escambia and Santa Rosa County offices and organizations have begun to cancel regular office hours and events.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Pensacola area and said there’s a 50% chance the region will see snow amounts of 1 to 3 inches on Tuesday. If there’s no snow, there will be freezing rain and ice accumulation.

The Winter Storm Watch is in effect from 6 a.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Wednesday for Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

Pensacola

The list of Pensacola offices closed on Tuesday includes:

  • City of Pensacola administrative offices, including departments and divisions not located at City Hall

  • City of Pensacola community resource centers

Pensacola State College

Pensacola State College has closed all offices and cancelled all on-campus classes and activities on Tuesday. Online classes and synchronous online classes will not be cancelled, and will continue as usual. Essential personnel contacted by their supervisor should report as directed.

University of West Florida

University of West Florida has closed all locations on Tuesday to include all classes, events, campus activities and online courses. University officials will monitor the weather and update the community regarding Wednesday’s forecast.

Escambia County

The list of Escambia County Offices closed on Tuesday includes:

  • Escambia County Board of County Commissioners: all departments

  • West Florida Public Libraries: all locations

  • Escambia County Tax Collector: all offices

  • Escambia County Supervisor of Elections

  • Escambia County Property Appraiser’s Office

  • Waste Services Administration and the Perdido Landfill

  • Escambia County Extension Services

  • Escambia County Clerk of the Court and Comptroller: all offices

Escambia County Public Schools

Escambia County Public Schools has closed all schools and district offices on Tuesday ahead of Tuesday’s wintry weather forecast.

Escambia County Public School’s monthly school board meeting has been canceled for Tuesday and will be rescheduled at a later date.

Escambia County Early Voting

All Escambia County Early Voting locations will be closed on Tuesday. Hours were extended on Sunday and Monday, however, to 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Town of Century

All Town of Century offices will be closed on Tuesday, and possibly Wednesday, due to the storm. The regular town council meeting will be moved to Thursday.

Santa Rosa County Offices

  • The Board of County Commissioner meeting and special presentation scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled. The Regular Commission meeting on Thursday is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.

  • County offices and facilities, including Jay Transfer Station, will be closed on Tuesday.

  • The Central Landfill will close at noon on Tuesday.

  • Santa Rosa County Clerk of Courts is closed Tuesday.

  • Santa Rosa County Property Appraiser is closed Tuesday.

  • Santa Rosa County Supervisor of Elections is closed Tuesday.

  • Santa Rosa County Tax Collector is closed Tuesday.

Santa Rosa County Schools

Santa Rosa County Schools will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Santa Rosa County Early Voting

Santa Rosa Supervisor of Elections has canceled Early Voting hours completely on Tuesday. Hours are extended on Sunday and Monday to 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

City of Milton

City Closures and Event Cancellations

  • All City Offices: Closed Tuesday, including City Hall, the Parks & Recreation Department and all Community Center activities.

  • Police Chief Candidate Review: Originally scheduled for Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. – cancelled (to be rescheduled).

  • Planning Board Meeting: Originally scheduled for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. – cancelled.

  • City Council Shade Meeting:  Originally scheduled for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. – cancelled (to be rescheduled).

MLK Day Parade & Celebration

  • Hosted by the Fellowship of Churches, the parade and celebration set for Monday are cancelled.

Sanitation Services Adjustments

  • Tuesday, January 21, 2025: Sanitation services will be rescheduled for Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

Florida Department of Health

All Florida Department of Health in Escambia County (DOH-Escambia) offices will be closed on Tueday in response to severe weather impacts. Offices will remain closed until further notice.

Emerald Coast Utilities Authority

ECUA offices will be closed on Tuesday. Additionally, the Citizens’ Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting scheduled for that day has been cancelled. The next CAC meeting will take place on Feb. 18.

ECUA Sanitation collections will be delayed by one day. Tuesday’s collections will occur on Wednesday, with all subsequent collections running one day later throughout the week. Friday’s collections will be completed on Saturday.
