Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has sustained a hamstring injury and could be sidelined for three weeks.

Madrid confirmed the 22-year-old had undergone assessments which revealed the injury to his left thigh.

A three-week absence would rule Camavinga out of Madrid’s next five matches and leave him with a race to be fit for the La Liga fixture against city rivals and league leaders Atletico Madrid on February 9.

A Madrid club statement read: “Following tests carried out today on our player Eduardo Camavinga by the Real Madrid medical services, he has been diagnosed with a muscular injury in the biceps femoris of his left leg.”

Camavinga has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season, providing one goal and two assists.

The France international missed the opening seven La Liga matches of the campaign with a knee ligament sprain picked up in training in August, and was absent for three games in December after sustaining a hamstring injury in his left leg during November’s Champions League defeat to Liverpool.

Madrid have dealt with a number of injuries this season. Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal are both long-term absentees after suffering anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, while Aurelien Tchouameni, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe and Thibaut Courtois have all faced spells during the campaign.

The Athletic reported in December the club have hired nutritionist Itziar Gonzalez de Arriba in a bid to address the extensive injury problems they have encountered.

Madrid are second in La Liga and return to action against Las Palmas on Sunday.
