Ruben Amorim spoke with Sir Jim Ratcliffe following Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Southampton on Thursday night.

Amad scored a late 12-minute hat-trick to secure a dramatic victory United over the Premier League’s bottom side, who took a first-half lead through a Manuel Ugarte own goal.

Ratcliffe — whose INEOS group controls football operations at the club — watched United from the stands for the first time since last month’s Manchester derby triumph, in which Amad also starred.

“I had five minutes with him to talk about different things and the game,” Amorim said following the match. “The result helped the conversation!

“We continue doing our job. Today the win was more important, I know the fans want to see so much better football but we need to win games. We managed to win and we are going to prepare the next game.”

Amorim also said there was no message to hat-trick hero Amad following the match as he never gave up believing that his side could turn the game around.

“I didn’t say anything to him (Amad), but I will tell him tomorrow he has to rest and eat good food,” Amorim said. “On Sunday we need him again. He did a great job, a good moment for a young kid to score a hat-trick for a club like this.

“You always believe, I have to believe. The chance for example Antony misses you have that feeling let’s go again everything is so fresh, the three losses we have but we manage to turn things around. We didn’t do a good game but if you look at all the opportunities I think we deserve the win.”

The victory moves United up to 12th in the Premier League and they will return to action on Sunday with a home league game against Brighton & Hove Albion.
