Ruben Amorim wants his players “dead” at the end of matches after giving everything physically.
The Manchester United head coach said Harry Maguire is an example to follow after playing 104 minutes at Arsenal in the FA Cup despite missing two days of training through illness.
Amorim also revealed Luke Shaw could be a couple of weeks away from a return, but that Mason Mount’s spell on the sidelines would be longer.
“I believe a lot in Harry,” said Amorim. “I said this when we signed the new contract. He needs to improve on the pitch and outside the pitch. You can see the way he plays now is different because he believes a lot in himself.
“I think we have to praise Harry more than me. He’s doing a great job. He was sick in the last game. He was dead in the end. That’s what I want from every player. He has to continue to do a good job.”
Amorim added: “I think we want to be a team that is hard to play. I had this feeling, especially at home in the last games, that we were easy to play. And we have to be honest with that. So if we face the competition the right way, we will be tough to beat for any opponent. So that’s what I wanted.”
Shaw has been out for more than a month with a hamstring injury, but Amorim said: “Luke Shaw is near than Mason Mount, he will take a little bit longer. But for sure, Luke, we will see in the next week or two. We will see if he’s returning.”
