EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A pursuit involving Texas state troopers ended in a rollover crash on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 12 in West El Paso with four arrests and one person being airlifted for what are now being called non-life-threatening injuries, the Texas Department of Public Safety said late Sunday night.

At about 3:20 p.m., a DPS trooper, along with members of the DPS Criminal Investigations Division, attempted to stop an SUV near the intersection of Paisano Drive and Doniphan Drive.

The driver, later identified as 38-year-old Isela Moreno, of Las Cruces, failed to stop and that resulted in a pursuit along Doniphan, then northbound on Sunland Park Drive and then Mesa Street, DPS said.

The SUV lost control and rolled over on Mesa Street near the intersection with Remcon Circle.

Several passengers tried to flee the scene but were later apprehended, DPS said.

One passenger was airlifted to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, DPS said.

Moreno, the driver, was charged with evading arrest/detention with a motor vehicle and evading arrest/detention on foot.

Passenger Edward Pinedo, 35, also from Las Cruces, was identified as a wanted fugitive by the El Paso Police Department for felony theft, DPS said.

Pinedo was also charged with evading arrest/detention on foot, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and theft of property.

Additionally, Angel Torres Tovar Jr., 20, and Ivan Hernandez, 30, both from Las Cruces, were charged with evading arrest/detention on foot.

All suspects had tattoos linking them to a local street gang based in Las Cruces, DPS said. Each individual has “a significant criminal history involving narcotics, property crimes, and crimes against persons,” DPS added.

All individuals involved were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.

The incident remains under investigation.
