David Boreanaz has gone from one long-running show to another for nearly three decades — and he’s looking for a change.

“I’d probably shy away from a network series these days,” Boreanaz, 55, revealed to TV Insider on Monday, December 30. “Just because of the time and the amount that’s ordered. It’s just a lot of work. [But there have still been] some good things.”

Boreanaz’s most recent project was SEAL Team, which wrapped up in October after seven seasons. While he was ready to move on, Boreanaz didn’t know exactly what he would want to do next.

“I don’t sit down and go, ‘That’s going to be the next thing,’” he noted. “I have some really great fruits of labor that are paying off right now that are going to bring some really nice opportunities for me come the new year. And I don’t sit back and say, ‘Well, this is the next series I’m going to do.’”

Boreanaz is prioritizing what “makes sense” for him.

“Obviously I’m in a very different part of my life and my career. And I’m fortunate to be able to be offered some really great things and look at them very wisely in a mature level and take that for what it is,” he explained about how the TV landscape has changed. “I think the ability to take on maybe one or two different types of series would be an interesting feat.”

Why David Boreanaz Wont Do Another Network Show

The actor rose to stardom after playing Angel on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which debuted in 1997. After three seasons, Boreanaz scored himself a spinoff series and remained the lead of Angel until 2004. Boreanaz immediately transitioned to Bones, which ran on Fox from 2005 to 2017 before SEAL Team came along later that year.

“I had expressed my interest not to do the show anymore. I was finished regardless of even if they wanted to do two more seasons, one more season, I was done,” Boreanaz recalled to TV Insider in August about how he had plans to leave before the seventh and final season. “So then the writers’ strike hit [in late 2023] and it became six months later and that had already been decided.”

Boreanaz cited a “few” reasons why he was ready to look forward, explaining, “My body physically and mentally had found a space that was in sync with the character and knew that that would no longer continue. And I just felt like it was something that I was very clear with and it just made sense and it just unraveled naturally.”

Now Boreanaz has several gigs lined up that he’s excited to see come to fruition.

“I have some really great things [coming up] that I feel as though will fit nicely into my game. But all in all, I can say that, let’s see, one, two, three are very different types of characters, that’s for sure,” he teased. “I can say one is really cool, a passion project.”

Boreanaz continued: “One is a little similar but not in nature and kind of retired in a way, but now gets hired. That’s all I’m going to say. I don’t want to say too much because you know me. It’s like, hey, I live in the now and see what comes my way. I think that people know that about me.”
