If you’re planning to toast the new year with a little bubbly, Bartlesville Police Chief Kevin Ickleberry has a resolution-worthy offer: free, safe rides home on New Year’s Eve.
From 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Dec. 31, the Bartlesville Police Department will be your designated driver — no strings attached. It’s part of the department’s commitment to keeping the community safe during one of the most celebratory nights of the year.
“The goal of this event is to minimize impaired driving in our city,” Chief Ickleberry said. “We want everyone to arrive home safely after celebrating the holiday, so it is our hope people will take advantage of this offer in the interest of public safety.
Here’s how it works: If you’ve had a little too much to drink or maybe one of your friends has, simply call dispatch at 918-338-4001 and let them know you’d like to take Chief Ickleberry up on his offer. Provide your location, and a member of the police department will be on their way to get you home safely.
The service is free, but there’s one catch — you need to live within Bartlesville city limits to take advantage.
“This initiative demonstrates the department’s dedication to the well-being of all Bartlesville residents,” Ickleberry said. “By utilizing this service, individuals contribute to making New Year’s Eve a safe and enjoyable occasion for everyone.”
There is no need to stress about the cost — there isn’t one. It’s a gift from the BPD to the community because the only thing they want ringing in 2025 is laughter, not sirens.
