I must admit, it surprised me checking back in with our previous Premier League stadium rankings and seeing Old Trafford rank third.

It is the embodiment of Manchester United’s original Premier League success, of course. The stadium ballooned to its current size — the third largest in the United Kingdom — due in part to their early domination of the division.

But redevelopments ceased in 2006 and Old Trafford is now in serious need of renovation.

Still, it remains a temple of English football and for as long as it is standing, it should always feature on a football fans’ bucket list.
