The House of Representatives has voted on the “clean” continuing resolution (CR), known as the American Relief Act of 2024, fostered by Republican Speaker Mike Johnson and endorsed earlier on Thursday by incoming president, Donald Trump, and the spending bill has failed.

Speaker Mike Johnson made remarks to media about the process, as voting on the bill continued:

Johnson said, in part:
We’re going to do the right thing tonight.
The American Relief Act of 2024 will provide us temporary funding, to get us into the first part of next year.
…
We’ll be able to make the key decisions about funding for the 2025 fiscal year. This [CR] will allow us to do that. In addition, we’re going to take care of Americans who have suffered true, devastating emergences and disasters.

Now, the voting is over, according to Chad Pergram of Fox News, with the legislation failing to garner a simple majority, 174-234:
