One person has died following an active shooter situation and lockdown at a U.S. Army installation in eastern Georgia on Saturday morning. Fort Eisenhower officials confirmed that the fatal shooting occurred in on-post housing, but the identity of the victim has not been disclosed. The shooter is currently in custody, and authorities have stated that the incident “appears to be isolated.”
The lockdown was initiated around 9 a.m. and was lifted about an hour later, with officials confirming that the “dangerous event” had passed. The gates to the installation, located near Augusta, have since reopened. However, the base canceled activities related to the afternoon’s Army-Navy football game, which is being played outside Washington DC.
Fort Eisenhower’s spokesperson emphasized the safety of its residents and personnel, stating that they are actively supporting the victim’s family and offering assistance to those affected by the tragedy.

Fort Eisnehower was locked down this morning due to an active shooter. A person was shot and killed this morning in on-post housing. No information regarding the victim will be released until next-of-kin notification takes place. The shooter has apprehended and the incident appears to be isolated. The post gave the ‘All Clear’ and re-opened the gates at approximately 9:45 a.m.
Fort Eisenhower is actively supporting the victim’s family and assistance will be available to anyone impacted by this tragedy. The safety of our residents and personnel remains our primary concern.
