Arsenal have begun an investigation following allegations that a member of their staff made antisemitic comments on social media.
Messages from an account under the name of Mark Bonnick, a kit man at the club’s academy, made reference to the Israel-Gaza conflict during a series of exchanges on X, according to a report in The Times.
The X account has since been deactivated and The Athletic has been unable to verify if it is genuiune or the content of the messages under investigation but Arsenal said it had begun an internal process in response to the allegations.
In a statement, the club said: “We are investigating this matter in line with our internal policies and procedures. Arsenal stands against all forms of abuse and discrimination.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Arsenal beat Monaco 3-0 to move up to third in the Champions League standings with their fourth victory of the campaign.
Mikel Arteta’s side return to Premier League action against Everton on Saturday. They are currently third in the table, six points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand on their rivals after Saturday’s Merseyside derby had to be postponed due to adverse weather.
