Real Madrid forward Rodrygo will miss Saturday’s La Liga fixture against Girona as a precaution due to a muscular problem.
Madrid confirmed the Brazil international was a late withdrawal from the matchday squad on Saturday due to muscular discomfort in his left leg.
Forward Gonzalo Garcia, 20, and midfielder Chema Andres, 19, also withdrew from the squad on Saturday morning after feeling muscular discomfort at the end of Friday’s Madrid Castilla match against Real Murcia.
Rodrygo returned from an injury absence at the start of December, having missed two Madrid matches and November’s international fixtures with Brazil due to a muscular injury. A hamstring problem also kept him out of October’s Clasico.
The 23-year-old has made 17 appearances in all competitions this season, providing three goals and two assists.
Madrid’s 2024-25 campaign has been disrupted by injury and The Athletic reported this month the club have hired nutritionist Itziar Gonzalez de Arriba in a bid to address the extensive injury problems they have encountered.
In better news for Madrid, it was confirmed on Friday Vinicius Junior is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a hamstring injury and, although he will miss Saturday’s fixture against Girona, he is targeting a return to action against Atalanta on Tuesday or Rayo Vallecano the following weekend.
