When it comes to John Fetterman there is never a dull moment, and that was certainly the case on Thursday when the first-term Senator from Pennsylvania sat down for an interview on “The View,” where Joe Biden’s pardon of his son, convicted felon Hunter Biden, was the hot topic of discussion.

Before we get to that, a brief reminder: As we previously reported, the ladies on “The View” cheered news of Biden’s decision during their Monday broadcast, with co-host Whoopi Goldberg declaring ” You know, listen. I get it. We got a convicted felon as president” and co-host Sunny Hostin approvingly applauding as she ranted.

Two days later, however, things got a little heated after Goldberg took issue when guest Charlamagne Tha God referred to Biden lying over the summer about not pardoning his son as a “lie.”

On their Thursday show, co-host Joy Behar asked Fetterman about the pardon, noting that it had riled up people on both sides of the aisle but claiming Biden’s actions were kind of understandable considering Hunter Biden was his son.

Fetterman’s response was to bring up President-Elect Donald Trump’s falsified business records trial in New York, saying he believed both it and Hunter Biden’s cases were politically motivated and that Trump deserved a pardon from Biden, too:

“Well, I think it’s undeniable that the case against Hunter Biden was really politically motivated. But I also think it’s true that the trial in New York for Trump, that was political as well, too.

And in both cases, I think a pardon is appropriate and I really think collectively, America’s confidence in these kinds of institutions have been damaged by these kinds of cases, and we cannot allow these kinds of institutions to be weaponized against our political opponents. And it’s very clear both trials were politically motivated and weaponized on the other side.”

It’s a view Fetterman also shared when interviewed Tuesday by Politico:

“Those cases were clearly weaponized against them for political gain. That’s undeniable,” he said. “That was always inappropriate in my opinion. And a pardon in both are appropriate. And, for me, that collectively has damaged America’s trust in these institutions.”

I think the opinion that Hunter Biden’s cases were politically motivated just doesn’t hold water considering it’s the Biden DOJ we’re talking about here. But Fetterman’s position that Trump’s was, too, is not really an arguable point as far as I’m concerned. As George Washington University law school professor Jonathan Turley pointed out at the start of the trial, it was “legally absurd” in part because the “case is basically a state misdemeanor that had run out on the statute of limitations.”

Fetterman suggesting Trump should be pardoned makes it the second time this week that a sitting Democrat Senator has put that on the table, with Joe Manchin indicating, too, that he thinks that would be a good idea (yes, I know Manchin is technically no longer a Democrat, but I think the point still stands).

Biden won’t do it, of course, but if he did decide to do so as part of some 11th-hour bid to get revenge on the Democrats who forced him out of the presidential race, it sure would liven things up considerably, wouldn’t it?
