Among the numerous Cabinet and administration positions for which President-elect Donald Trump has announced his picks in the month following his election, there are several that are “new.”
The “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE), for instance, is grabbing a lot of the headlines, though technically it isn’t actually part of the government. With Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy heading the consulting entity, it will also have its own counsel, Bill McGinley.
There’s also the newly established “National Energy Council,” which Interior Secretary pick North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum is slated to lead.
And there’s an official Border Czar again (Tom Homan), even though current Vice President Kamala Harris supposedly held that role in the Biden administration…before she didn’t.

Sacks, 52, hosted the June fundraiser for Trump in Silicon Valley that hauled in $12 million for the campaign. He spoke at the Republican National Convention and gave a full-throated endorsement of the Trump-Vance ticket.
As Trump notes in his announcement, he views AI and crypto as critical to the nation remaining competitive. It’s smart to tap someone with vision and know-how to help lead on those fronts.
