Donald Trump’s confirmation that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will actually be a thing in the aftermath of his Election Day victory has taken Capitol Hill by storm, with conservative Republicans in general salivating over the possibilities while Democrats plot ways to undermine it since it is an advisory board of sorts at this stage and not an official government agency.
For instance, there’s been talk of at long last yanking public funding for NPR. Trump himself has said that co-leaders Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will work to “pave the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies.”

Naturally, DOGE has caught the attention of Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), one of the precious few from either chamber who remains steadfast in wanting to cut the size and scope of government while also making sure to hold its many bad-faith actors responsible and accountable.
Paul, who previously has said “I’m all in and will do anything I can to help” make DOGE work, appeared on Fox News Thursday where he was shown a clip of “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough ranting about how DOGE was allegedly a “scam” and claiming that the only thing they’d be able to cut was social security and Medicare.
The Senator’s response was priceless:
“Oh, poor Joe Scarborough. I remember when he was a conservative. You know, when he was a conservative Republican [Congressman] he actually voted against expanding Medicare into Medicare Part D, this extra part to make Medicare bigger ’cause he thought it might bankrupt the country.
So there was a time when he actually was a thoughtful person, but no longer. Now there is a sliver of the truth in the sense that yes, entitlements are a lot of the spending. But to say ‘entitlements are a lot of the spending therefore we’re not going to look at waste’ is the excuse we hear all the time.
Well, why don’t we start by getting rid of the three-quarters of a million dollars that was spent feeding cocaine to Japanese quail to see if they were more sexually promiscuous on cocaine? Maybe Joe would agree with getting at least that, get rid of that.”

Spot on, as usual, and we also should remember that Scarborough once again told on himself as being an out-of-touch Beltway elitist when he expressed shock two days after the election over the high cost of butter.

Scarborough has to rely on updates from his co-host wife on the rising prices of staple grocery items. Rand Paul, meanwhile, wants to make it easier to afford such things. I know who I’m siding with in this argument, and it ain’t Morning Joe.
