Joe Biden tried to slip through a pardon of his son on a holiday weekend and then fly off to Angola, perhaps hoping that no one would notice.
That didn’t work out as well as he hoped. You had folks from George Washington law professor Jonathan Turley to election analyst Nate Silver ripping the pardon, with Silver suggesting he might throw over the Democrats because of it. He even called for people not to vote for any Democrat who didn’t rebuke the pardon.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stumbled all over herself trying to explain it. It was one of her most ridiculous responses ever, saying that he believes in the truth because that’s what he said in the words of the pardon. Yes, Karine, but you guys had been lying for months. So talking about the truth and being truthful are two very different things.
Media meanwhile tried to avoid calling the grotesque flip-flop a lie. MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” tried to bury it.

But Jon Stewart just wrecked them in a truly funny bit on his show, skewering their claim to any kind of “moral authority,” which they are always falsely pitching and laying out the breadth of the hypocritical pardon.
Even Jon Stewart admits that Hunter’s pardon stretching back 11 years is quite fishy:
Jon Stewart: “Faith in the rule of law: Finally, Democrats have a moral perch for which they can judge without shame hypocrisy or nuance.”

Jessica Dean: “Breaking news, President Biden has issued a pardon for his son Hunter Biden” Jon Stewart: “11 years is a very specific and not rounded amount of time.”
The hypocrisy, it goes to 11.
He joked about how it was “narrowly written” and then played the clip showing it was covered 11 years. His face on that was great. It’s of course 11 years because it goes back to when Hunter started with Burisma in 2014. Stewart snarked if the pardon could include this coming “New Year’s Eve” as well. As long as it was including everything.
“I’m surprised Biden didn’t include the phrase on Earth One or any of the earths in the multiverse,” he quipped.
Stewart also took apart the Democrats, playing their prior statements about how wonderful Biden was for not pardoning his son, how that showed they were “committed to the rule of law.” Then he detailed the way they were twisting themselves into pretzels to deal with the pardon now.
Jon Stewart plays a compilation of Democrats dancing around the question of hypocrisy after falsely stating Joe Biden would not pardon Hunter Biden:
“The rest of the Democrats made Biden’s pledge to not pardon Hunter the foundation of their defense of America.

The Democrats are pulling out the Charles Kushner pardon as an excuse. But Kushner served his time in prison, Hunter didn’t. Plus there’s the questions about the foreign influence peddling here that may touch Joe, so it’s a pardon that could also be attempting to help himself.
As Jon Stewart said, it’s the Democrats who made this the line of morality. So they messed themselves up.
Bottom line? They never had the moral high ground. It was always an act and a lie.
