A new health club with pickleball courts, batting cages and fitness training facilities will open next year on David Street in the South End.
The new tenant is Southeast Sportsplex Health and Fitness Club. The club will also feature golf simulators, basketball and sports specific training as well as camps, clinics and group classes with opportunities for all ages and abilities with a capacity of 250 people in the recreation area.
The club will also complement the South End Baseball League and other leagues throughout the city, and it will feature spaces that can help improve an athlete’s performance over the winter months. There will also be health club storage and warehouse space.
Waterfront Mill Redevelopment District
This project falls within the Waterfront Mill Redevelopment District zone which calls for “adaptive reuse of mill buildings.”
Once the building permit is issued, the goal is to finish construction within two to three months.

The Planning Board doesn’t foresee parking will be a problem. No parking will however be allowed on the north side of David Street at the intersection with East Rodney French Boulevard, where there are restrictions.
Located at 11 David St., the building is currently in use as an industrial factory operating as North East Silicon Technologies, a company that reclaims silicon wafers for the semiconductor industry. The building was previously used to fabricate freezer insulation panels. It is surrounded by other mill buildings.
The Planning Board voted unanimously in favor of the project. Ward 6 City Councilor Ryan Pereira said he thinks it’s a great reuse of the facility.
“I think a recreational space particularly in this area is going to be a great benefit to the neighborhood and the city as a whole,” he said.
