House Speaker Mike Johnson signaled that he will support a resolution authored by South Carolina Republican Nancy Mace to ban men from moping around women’s bathrooms and locker rooms in the Capitol; see Nancy Mace Starts a Firestorm With Move to Ban ‘Trans Women’ From Women’s Bathrooms, Liberals Melt Down. His definitive statement to the Associated Press — “We’re not going to have men in women’s bathrooms” — was a welcome clarification to the more muddled answer he gave in a press conference earlier in the day where a statement resounding with moral clarity was modified into squishiness.

Unfortunately, he modified his strong opening with, “I’m not gonna get into this. We treat all persons with dignity and respect. And we will. And I’m not going to engage in silly debates about this.”

Well, yes, we do treat persons with dignity and respect, and that does not entail giving into their bizarre, sick little fantasies and stripping women of their dignity, and treating them with disrespect by forcing them to share private spaces with them.

Johnson’s support means that incoming Delaware representative Tim Sarah McBride will be welcome to use either his private bathroom or the men’s room.

The nastiness of the response to Mace’s attempt to keep women’s spaces for women has been somewhat surprising. Earlier today, she received what can only be taken as a death threat from an irate man/woman; I can’t tell which. In ordinary times, this would have resulted in a visit by law enforcement, but not today; see Like Clockwork: Nancy Mace Drops Receipts After Receiving Threatening Video Message From Trans ‘Woman.’ On the other hand, an ambush interview of Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene didn’t go as planned.

I think we’ve hit peak transgender. Women athletes have started to revolt against the silliness, and the Trump administration should make stomping out this nonsense in our education system and military a top priority.
