Seth Meyers Pretty Upset That America's 'Stupid System' Ended Lawfare Against Trump

In addition to the joy of watching the left-wing media’s hysterical meltdown continue in the aftermath of President-elect Donald Trump’s historic trouncing of Vice President Kamala Harris in Tuesday’s election, it’s also humorous to watch their childish attacks on America’s legal and constitutional systems.

On Thursday’s episode of ABC’s “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” the crestfallen host put both his bitterness and lack of understanding of the justice system on full display.

In response to Republicans now calling for the never-ending efforts to prosecute Trump to stop, Meyers said (emphasis, mine):

[Y]ou know what? You’ll probably get your way because the Supreme Court gave Trump immunity and the DOJ has a dumb policy about not prosecuting sitting presidents and it stinks. We have a stupid system that basically makes getting elected president a get out of jail free card

Stop the tape.

Meyers makes it sound, no doubt intentionally, that the Supreme Court specifically gave immunity to Trump.

Meyers was categorically incorrect on multiple fronts.

First, the Supreme Court has never held that a president is immune from criminal prosecution. Second, The assumption of immunity is based on a longstanding US Department of Justice policy dating back to 1973 and reaffirmed in 2000 that maintains sitting presidents cannot be tried or jailed while in office.

While Meyers might think, in Trump’s case, that is, that the policy is “dumb” or “stupid,” does anyone on the planet believe he would take the same position if we were talking about a Democrat president? The question is rhetorical; of course not.

Meyers continued, trying to be funny and failing miserably.

They’re going to have to add one to Monopoly that says, “Run for president. Win, collect $200.”  And then a second card that says, “Unless your name is Rudy Giuliani, then you’re still broke and disbarred and weird.” And sure enough, DOJ officials are already getting ready to comply with Republican demands.

Ignorance, extraordinaire.

Justice Department officials have been evaluating how to wind down the two federal criminal cases against Trump before he takes office to comply with the policy, as I enumerated above.

Meyers continued to spew.

Attorney and journalist Paula Reid attempted to educate Meyers on the efforts of Special Counsel Jack Smith, whose dogged use of lawfare against Trump has been blatantly political.

I’m told that Jack Smith is someone who understands that he has to follow whatever the rules and regulations of the Justice Department are. So, at this point, they are looking for ways to wind this down. I’m told it’s unclear when this will happen… I’m told that the formal discussions, according to my source, have begun in earnest today, and it’s going to take them several days to figure out exactly what this looks like.

Bingo.

Still, Meyers continued to wax idiotic, lauding embattled Attorney General Merrick Garland, who, in my not-so-humble opinion, should share a federal prison cell with serial-lying Department of Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who has allowed illegal aliens to surge across the southern border since the early days of the Biden-Harris administration.

Take it away, Seth.

You know, not everything the Democrats did the last four years was great. But one thing you can’t complain about was the deliberate pace with which Merrick Garland prosecuted Donald Trump. I mean, he dotted his I’s and crossed his T’s, then dotted his T’s and crossed his I’s.

Then he crossed out his I’s and replaced them with T’s, then he crossed actual eyes and put dots on his T-shirt, and sure, at the end of four years, there’s literally nothing to show for it. But is that what a Justice Department is even for, results? Or is it about the journey?

Pretty awesome that by winning the presidency you get off scot-free from your many legal cases. Justice is served.

Even Meyers knows that if this were Barack Obama or Joe Biden, he’d be singing a different song.

The depth of hypocrisy on the left knows no bounds. Neither does its intentional ignorance of facts.
