Amad says he wants to stay at Manchester United for a “long, long, long time” after scoring a brace to give the club its first European win in more than a year.

The 22-year-old’s contract expires in the summer, although there is an option to extend to 2026.

Amad has been in and out of the United team this season, and he showed frustrations during United’s game at Fenerbahce at being sent on after Antony.

But interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy started Amad for the first time in seven games on Thursday and he produced a man of the match display in a 2-0 win over PAOK, scoring the first with his head and the second with his left foot.

“I’m happy to be here,” said Amad afterwards. “I’m happy to play for this club, and yeah, I want to stay here for a long, long, long time to make history with this club.”

Amad said in July he had held positive talks with then manager Erik ten Hag over his future, and was ready to discuss extending his current contract.

United had not won in Europe since beating Copenhagen in the Champions League in October 2023. They moved from 21st to 15th in the season’s Europa League table after starting the campaign with three draws.

Amad came off with an apparent injury but was walking freely after the game, saying: “The first half I had pain on my ankle.”

He scored his first United goal in March 2021 with a header against AC Milan, but said: “I didn’t expect it but was good to score with my head (again).”

He added about being out of the side: “I always try to do my best, even when I am not starting. I’m focused every time.”

Amad’s role as a winger has questioned with the imminent arrival of Ruben Amorim, who plays a wing-back system. But Amad said: “I am excited to have him in this team and I can’t wait to work with him. We are ready for the next step.

“I know I was player of the month in August, but I have moved on. I am focused for now, for the future and to give my best for the shirt and get this team back on top again.”
