Conservatives have an interesting relationship with HBO’s “Real Time” host Bill Maher.
On one hand, we herald the veteran comedian and brash political commentator when he slams the left or praises former President Donald Trump (which doesn’t happen often). On the other hand, we skewer Maher when he trashes Trump and conservative policies, or sings the praises of the left and Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
But here’s the rare thing about Maher. While no fan of Trump, he continues to call out his left-wing colleagues when they lie or misrepresent — a rare quality on the left.
Such was the case of Friday’s episode of “Real Time,” when Maher lit up his Democrat comrades who rushed to claim that Trump in recent comments called for Republican outcast and former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) to be shot by a firing squad, proving once again that the left will stoop to any low it deems necessary.

Maher kicked off the festivities by asking his panel what they thought of the Democrats’ claim.
What do you make of the statement, I woke up today to the headline that Trump had called for a firing squad for Liz Cheney, and this is what I really don’t like about the media: no, he didn’t, he didn’t, you don’t, you don’t have to move me to not like Donald Trump more than I—
The host was cut off mid-sentence by leftist podcaster and former cultural news editor of The Daily Beast, Michael Moynihan, who couldn’t wait until Maher finished his question to rip Trump: “He says so many s****y things, why do you have to do that?”
Translation: “Never mind that my fellow leftists are lying about Trump calling for Cheney to executed by a firing squad; the only thing that matters is my stage-4 Trump Derangement Syndrome and how much I hate the guy.”
Maher then continued:
And by the way, what if people don’t realize it, he’s criticizing her for being a war hawk. I mean, she is Dick Cheney’s daughter. He said, ‘She’s a radical war hawk. Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, okay, let’s see how she feels about it. You know, they’re all war hawks when they’re sitting in Washington in a nice building saying, ‘Oh gee, we’ll send tens of thousands of troops right into the mouth of the enemy.’ Now, of course, he expresses himself horribly. He has to add, ‘she’s a stupid person’ because he’s a moron.
In other words, Democrats who support the never-ending war in Ukraine, which tragically continues to kill untold numbers of civilians, should think about the consequences of that conflict and others. Nope, Trump called for Cheney to be executed, according to Democrats, which is total nonsense spewed by left-wingers who have no shame.
Insufferable Democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD) tossed in his predictable two cents. “Well, Trump knows what it’s really like from Vietnam.”
Maher wasn’t having it, suggesting that Trump could have made his point differently, and comparing the comments to the way “hippies” talked during the Vietnam War:
Okay, just to be clear, this is exactly what hippies always said. This is exactly what peaceniks always said. This is “Fortunate Son,” the song. It’s like, you know what, it’s very easy to sit in your building and send young men to die, apropos of Ukraine, because, I don’t know, that war doesn’t look like it’s going in the right direction.
But just so, you know, just, just don’t lie to me. I don’t like Donald Trump, don’t lie to me and tell me she was in, he wants — in front of a firing squad. He was saying something that, by the way, if it came out of the mouth, some of it, not the stupid part, again, sounds like what hippies used to say about not sending people to. Yes?
Surprisingly, Raskin acquiesced on the “lying” part:
But, Bill, can I, agree with you on the lying. I mean, that’s ridiculous and absurd and counterproductive. But when did Donald Trump ever criticize a war hawk the way a hippie did? I mean, was it during Vietnam? He got out of going to Vietnam, but he didn’t criticize the war or the Iraq War.
Maher held his ground:
Jamie, I’m not defending Trump. … I’m just saying, don’t lie to me.
Moynihan jumped back in to spew more bilge about Trump, which I didn’t bother transcribing. You can watch the entire segment for yourself, here:
I’m convinced that Trump Derangement is truly a psychological condition. The left hates the former president so much that it continues to allow their hatred to riddle their brains. Just imagine their psychotic reaction, both short term and long, if the unthinkable — in their twisted minds — happens next Tuesday.
Stock up on plenty of popcorn and enjoy the (hopefully) coming show, gang.
