As if to purposely torpedo Vice President Kamala Harris’ already teetering campaign, President Joe Biden went on television Tuesday evening and called Trump supporters “garbage.” That transpired after a multi-day freak-out from Democrats and their press allies over a pro-Trump roast comic telling a bad joke about Puerto Rico. As stupid as that was, the Harris campaign felt like they finally had something cooking, but the old man entered the chat and put a stop to that.
SEE: Joe Biden Sabotages Kamala Harris, Calls Trump Supporters ‘Garbage’
Just as soon as Biden had uttered the words, the mad dash to explain away what he said began. The White House edited the transcript to add a magical apostrophe, claiming that the president actually meant that Trump “supporter’s” garbage was the issue, not that they are garbage themselves. I’m not sure how that makes things any better, but given we have access to the video, and it’s clear he said what he said, I don’t think it matters. The damage is done.
How was Kamala Harris going to handle the situation? We got our answer on Wednesday morning after she was asked about it standing on a ramp at Joint Base Andrews.
Reporter: Do you sympathize with voters insulted by Biden’s garbage comment?
Kamala: “I am running for President. I will be traveling to 3 states today… I get it in terms of the concerns they have about challenges like the price of groceries.”pic.twitter.com/DlJU03h53F

REPORTER: Do you sympathize with any voters who do feel offended by or insulted by the garbage comment?
HARRIS: I am running for president of the United States. I will be traveling to three states today to do what I have been doing throughout which is talking with the American people about the fact that, first of all, I get it, in terms of the concerns they have about challenges like the price of groceries…
This woman is the walking equivalent of a predictive text machine. You ask her a question and she just starts spitting out random lines. “I am running for the President of the United States. I will be traveling to three states today…” she proclaims, which has absolutely nothing to do with the reporter’s question. Yeah, we all care about the price of groceries (and have zero faith the person in power for the last four years can fix the problem), but does she sympathize with voters who feel offended by Biden’s comments? Who knows because she couldn’t help but fall into her scripted comments.
When pressed further, she did it again, this time going into her “I was a prosecutor” bit while repeating a canned response from the debate about asking people if they “are okay.”
Kamala: “From my earliest years as a prosecutor, I never asked anyone are they a Democrat or Republican. The only thing I asked folks is ‘Are you ok?’ and that’s the kind of president I will be.” pic.twitter.com/8v31Slpf09

REPORTER: Are you concerned about what impact this may have on voters, on the divisiveness of the election, and whether or not it’s going to dissuade some people from supporting you because of your affiliation with the president’s administration?
HARRIS: I’ve been very clear with the American public. I respect the challenges that people face. I respect the fact that we all have so much more in common than what separates us and that most people want a president who understands that, that gets that, and approaches their role of leadership that way. I’ve been very clear from my earliest years as a prosecutor. I never asked anyone if they are a Democrat or Republican. The only thing I asked folks is “are you okay?” And That’s the kind of president I will be.
There has never been a presidential candidate as vapid as this. She quite literally never has anything to say about anything. She doesn’t put in the time to even prepare basic answers to questions she knows she’ll be asked. Instead, she just falls back onto a series of rehearsed, focus-grouped responses that make her sound more like a robot than a person. The reporter asked if she was concerned about Biden’s comments impacting her support, and she launched into a completely unrelated word salad.
So did she ever get around to addressing the comments directly? The answer is sort of.
Kamala Harris on “garbage” comments from Biden: “First of all he clarified his comments, but let me be clear, I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for.” She said they spoke last night but they didn’t discuss the issue. pic.twitter.com/oDY8aKPgfc

Hang on. Wait a second. How could Biden have clarified his comments if a magical apostrophe exists that changes what he said? Because the press has assured me there’s nothing to clarify and that it is Republicans who are pouncing and seizing on his words by taking them out of context. That’s not true, but still. Harris wants to have it both ways, not admitting what was said and directly condemning it while vomiting out some platitudes about respecting everyone. It’s laughable.
What’s not laughable is that there’s still a very real chance this person becomes the President of the United States. Could you imagine Harris having to make split-second decisions with major consequences on the line? She’s already been accused of not doing her homework, including brushing off briefings, and that penchant for laziness shows in her public appearances. There is nothing behind the facade she and the press have built.
