Grab your angel wings, because the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is making a comeback.
The lingerie and clothing brand’s official Instagram page announced the news in May.
“We’ve read the comments and heard you. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is ✨ BACK ✨ and will reflect who we are today, plus everything you know and love — the glamour, runway, wings, musical entertainment and more,” the caption read. “Stay tuned … it only gets more iconic from here.”
From 1995 to 2018, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was an annual event promoting the company that soon became a pop culture moment. Models including Gisele Bündchen, Karlie Kloss and Naomi Campbell walked the runway dressed in lingerie, often with elaborate angel wings trailing behind them. Over the years, musicians including Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, the Spice Girls, Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber performed at the high-profile fashion shows.
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show hit its stride during the early 2000s with over 12 million people tuning in to watch in 2001. The event’s popularity continued for over a decade, until L Brands CFO Stuart Burgdoerfer announced the show’s cancellation in November 2019, citing a decline in viewership.
After a six-year hiatus, the star-studded show is back. Keep scrolling for everything to know about the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show:
Why Was the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Canceled in the First Place?
Burgdoerfer, the CFO for Victoria’s Secret parent company L Brands, confirmed the show’s cancellation during a November 2019 earnings call.
“We think it’s important to evolve the marketing of Victoria’s Secret,” he said at the time.
The decision came after the 2018 show pulled in just 3 million viewers compared to 10 million in 2010, the worst ratings in the event’s history. The brand was also embroiled in controversy at the time of the cancellation after Ed Razek, then-chief marketing officer for L Brands, made controversial statements during a November 2018 interview with Vogue.
Razek referred to trans women by the term “transsexuals” — which is widely considered to be outdated and offensive — and said they shouldn’t be included “because the show is a fantasty.” He also said that the brand “attempted to do a television special for plus-size [models]” in 2000, but “no one had any interest in it [and they] still don’t.”
Razek, who resigned from the company in August 2019, apologized for his “insensitive” comments in a statement shared via X, then called Twitter.
“To be clear, we absolutely would cast a transgender model for the show. We’ve had transgender models come to castings … and like many others, they didn’t make it,” he wrote. “But it was never about gender. I admire and respect their journey to embrace who they really are.”
The Razek controversy also pointed to a larger criticism of the Victoria’s Secret brand: That it was outdated and promoted harmful and archaic ideas about women’s bodies, race and gender. Subsequent ad campaigns from the brand addressed those concerns with more inclusive messaging and models.
The brand’s reputation also suffered due to L Brands CEO Les Wexner’s association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein was Wexner’s financial advisor from 1987 to 2007. During that time, Epstein posed as a Victoria’s Secret recruiter to gain access to young models.
“The issue of Epstein claiming an association with Victoria’s Secret was raised on one occasion with Mr. Wexner,” Wexner’s attorney said in a statement for the 2022 Hulu docuseries Victoria’s Secret: Angels and Demons. “He confronted Epstein and was clear that it was a violation of Company policy for him to suggest that he was associated in any way with Victoria’s Secret and that Epstein was forbidden from ever doing so again. Epstein denied having done so.”
Wexner later transitioned from CEO to Chairman Emeritus of the parent company, which is now called Bath & Body Works, Inc.

The last iteration of the show took place at New York City’s Pier 94 in November 2018. The event boasted musical performances from Shawn Mendes, Rita Ora, The Chainsmokers, Halsey and Kelsea Ballerini and models including Martha Hunt, Stella Maxwell, Adriana Lima and Behati Prinsloo walked the runway.

Former Victoria’s Secret Angel Tyra Banks, who walked in nine of the brand’s shows before her retirement, will host the event.
