NFL Week 6 scores and live updates: Bears beat Jaguars in London, channel, highlights, analysis, stats

The Chicago Bears picked up their fourth win of the season Sunday, defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 35-16 in London behind rookie quarterback Caleb Williams’ strong performance.

Williams threw for four touchdowns, including two TD passes in the second quarter to Cole Kmet, who did it all for the Bears. The tight end also served as the team’s emergency long snapper after Scott Daly hurt his knee in the first quarter. Wide receiver Keenan Allen scored twice in the second half as Jacksonville struggled to stop Chicago’s explosive offense and generate momentum of its own.

The Bears improved to 4-2 while the Jaguars sank to 1-5 and remain at the bottom of the AFC South.

Williams delivers on national TV

Anyone associated with the Bears, from the fans to the employees, hoped Williams would make history one day. It took until his sixth start to start putting up some rare numbers. In London, it was four passing touchdowns — something Justin Fields did twice last season, Mitch Trubisky did once in 2018, and that’s it since Jay Cutler in 2014.

Williams rebounded from back-to-back three-and-outs to start the game and made some pretty throws in the red zone, while also making big plays with his legs as a scrambler.

Yes, we’ll spend the week noting that it came against a bad Jaguars pass defense, but it was still a very impressive outing in a new environment. He did it on national television and showed the ability to bounce back from an interception as well. — Kevin Fishbain, Bears beat writer

Bears clamp down despite injuries in secondary

For a moment, it seemed like Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence was bound for a big day against a banged-up Bears secondary. The Jaguars scored on their opening drive, but the defense clamped down the rest of the way. Credit backups for making splash plays, like safety Elijah Hicks breaking up a pass in the end zone, Chris Williams notching a sack, and Josh Blackwell getting his first career interception.

Before leaving the game with an injury, cornerback Kyler Gordon made several key tackles. DeMarcus Walker had a sack and two QB hits. And T.J. Edwards’ forced fumble to start the second half set the tone for the Bears to get in position to pull away. The bye week should come at a good time for the DBs to get healthy, and this performance spoke to the defense’s depth. — Fishbain
