While Sunday’s game in Seattle started off beautifully for the Seahawks, the squad was unable to harness the momentum and struggled on both sides of the ball during their 29-20 home loss to the New York Giants.
After New York marched down the field on their opening possession, Giants’ running back Eric Gray attempted to punch in a one-yard touchdown to open the scoring. Instead, he fumbled the ball which was picked up by Seahawks’ safety Rayshawn Jenkins and returned 102 yards for a touchdown.
While this play looked like it could set the tone for the day, the Giants were resilient and simply outplayed Seattle for the rest of the game. New York put up 420 yards of total offense, including 175 yards on the ground and were relentless on defense, sacking Geno Smith seven times.
Yet, with under two minutes remaining, Seattle had a chance to tie the game with a Jason Meyers field goal after a well orchestrated drive by Smith. However, this attempt was blocked by Isaiah Simmons and returned 60 yards for a game-sealing touchdown by Bryce Ford-Wheaton.
