It continues to be amateur hour over at the Harris campaign. Earlier in the week, the vice president tried to launch an attack on Gov. Ron DeSantis, claiming he was ignoring federal help for Hurricane Milton, only for Joe Biden to swoop in and completely debunk her claim. It was another example of Harris and her handlers not having their ducks in a row before attempting to create a narrative.

A recent stop by a coffee shop in Arizona produced similar bad results. Tim Walz and Doug Emhoff stopped by Otro Cafe in Phoenix to produce a photo-op and show how down with the working people they are. Not mentioned was Emhoff being credibly accused of slapping a then-girlfriend in public. He’s still out doing the campaign thing, completely protected by the mainstream press who refuse to touch the story.
Regardless, video of the incident in Arizona emerged showing Walz and Emhoff grabbing their coffees from the counter only to walk off without paying. The Minnesota governor’s daughter is then forced to assure the cashier that someone will come pay them later.
Tampon Tim and Doug went to a coffee shop, walked away from the counter without paying, and left Tim’s daughter to inform the cashiers that a handler will be coming to pay with a credit card.

Nothing says “middle class” like not knowing you have to pay for your coffee after you order and receive it. I guess they are used to their subordinates doing that stuff for them.
That’s not the biggest issue here, though. I’m sure a handler eventually showed up and paid for what they initially stole. The problem here is that this is not how these photo-ops are supposed to go. The entire point of the coffee shop campaign stop is to have the candidate interact with the workers while leaving a big tip. It’s not to just smile for the cameras, take a coffee, and leave.
This episode shows a continued lack of ability by the Harris campaign to execute even the most basic strategies. Harris’ recent interview tour, where she showed up on far-left podcasts hosted by Alex Cooper and Howard Stern while also backslapping with the ladies on “The View” and with Stephen Colbert, showed a profound lack of planning. She wasn’t ready for basic questions, but even doing those shows instead of trying to reach a wider audience was a mistake.
The dynamic could change, but for the moment, the Harris campaign feels like it’s flailing. Early on, there was very much a “do-no-harm” approach, keeping the vice president on the teleprompter in curated public events. As the polls have closed, though, with Trump taking the lead in some key swing states, that has changed. Harris is now grasping at straws, and that’s leading to a variety of errors that could further dampen her pursuit of the White House.
Returning to Walz and Emhoff, having them traveling and campaigning together is not a good look. The idea seems to be that they’ll appeal to men by “bro-ing around” the country. Let me assure the Harris campaign: That is not going to happen. The whole beta male thing does not play with most men, much less the working-class demographic Democrats desperately need to win. The best course would be to hide Walz and Emhoff in the basement and stick the vice president back on the teleprompter.
