The NWSL and luxury brand Tiffany & Co. unveiled a new NWSL Shield and refreshed MVP trophy Wednesday, as part of the pair’s year-old and ongoing collaboration to overhaul the league’s end-of-year awards.

The redesigned NWSL Shield, awarded to the team with the best regular season record, features a removable base and a wielded handle on the back of the trophy, meaning the NWSL regular season champions can wield the award as a “true” shield. The revamp, inspired by ancient Greco-Roman armor and symbolizing a “warrior mentality,” is the trophy’s first redesign since the league’s inception in 2013.

“The best players in the world play here at the NWSL, and it is only fitting that we work with Tiffany to honor the best of the best with the most majestic, iconic trophies,” NWSL chief marketing and commercial officer Julie Haddon said in a release. “It has been a long time coming to create a suite of awards that are as extraordinary as our athletes.”

The new NWSL Shield also incorporates a blend of 24k gold vermeil and sterling silver, matching the league’s championship trophy, and has a traditional ball at its center. On Wednesday, the league also unveiled a revamped version of the NWSL’s regular season MVP trophy.

The NWSL first partnered with Tiffany & Co. last year, kicking off their partnership with redesigned versions of the league’s Championship and MVP trophies. They will continue their partnership to redesign other end-of-year awards, including four redesigned trophies for Championship, Championship MVP, Shield and Season MVP.

The awards “set a new standard for recognition in women’s sports,” Haddon said. In partnering with the luxury brand last year, the league joined a long list of American sports leagues with Tiffany-designed trophies. That includes the NFL, NBA and MLB. The brand has also partnered with MLS since 2008.

There are four more weeks of the regular season, with the final regular-season games scheduled for Nov. 3.
