This series has focused on many types of heroes: dogs who used their noses to save children, kind neighbors who went above and beyond, and regular folks who acted bravely in the moment. That doesn’t mean we forget the action types, though—the heroes who jump out of planes, run into raging fires to save pets, or jump into frozen ponds to rescue drowning people.

That’s exactly what we have here, and dramatic video footage captured the amazing moment when two Macomb County, Michigan, sheriff’s deputies worked as a team to save a 63-year-old incapacitated driver—and possibly, victims who would have been injured or worse had the situation not been resolved. Unable to get the driver’s attention—he was experiencing an unspecified medical issue and was barely responsive—the deputies realized they had only one option: somehow get in the car and steer it to safety themselves.

And that’s exactly what they did.

Watch:

The heroic pair literally drove alongside the moving vehicle, waited for the perfect moment, and then  Deputy Nicole Miron leapt from the squad car into the truck. Incredible.

The driver had not been going that fast—only about 5 MPH in fact, but that doesn’t mean it still wasn’t an incredibly dangerous move to jump from car to car—on a highway.

Miron sounded remarkably cool and composed after the heart-stopping effort: “I don’t think I even hit the side of the truck or anything,” she said. “I did a clear jump in, and put the vehicle in park, and here we are.”

It all went down on Sept. 12 in Mount Clemens, just outside of Detroit, but it’s been going viral on social media the past several days. Here’s what happened:

On September 12th, Miron was in the passenger seat with Deputy Anthony Gross, driving.

Gross is a trainee — his second week on the job — when they responded to reports of a car driving eratically down Gratiot came in.

“He wasn’t responding when we were trying to pull him over, the lights, the sirens, nothing like that,” Miron said. “As we got on the side, you could see he was in a daze, he was an elderly gentleman.”

The car was going slowly — but they didn’t have much time.

“We’ve got to stop him before 16 Mile,” she said. “He’s already gone through a couple red lights passing through Herrington.”

That’s when Deputy Miron realized: “I’m going through, I’m going to have to jump over there.”

“I was just looking at his driver mirror and my passenger mirror and just tried to line it up that way,” Gross said. “Luckily everybody else was dispersing because we had our lights and sirens on.”

Deputy Gross’ driving was perfect, and it allowed Deputy Miron to lean out the window — and tried to use her window punch.  Luckily, the driver was able to roll his window down.

Then came the leap and rescue.

Here’s a closer look at Miron’s brave maneuver:

Perhaps Tom Cruise will be contacting her for the next “Mission: Impossible” franchise entry. Good for trainee Gross, and good for Miron—you are today’s heroes.

The driver is reported to be recovering and in good condition.

This is one in a series about everyday heroes that don’t necessarily make the front pages. It’s a chance to talk about something other than Kamala’s cackling or the latest Democrat censorship efforts.

I’m inviting readers to send me stories of people they know or who they’ve read about who have done heroic acts—large or small, physical or otherwise—that have made someone’s life better or saved them from danger. Please email me with any tips at [email protected] or DM me on Twitter. Thanks!
