Authorities have arrested a 17-year-old boy in Cathedral City, accusing him of making violent threats online against Rancho Mirage High School. The teen’s home was searched, but no weapons were found.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said deputies received a report on Wednesday, Sept. 4, around 6 p.m. that someone had posted school violence threats online. With the FBI’s help, it identified a home in the 27-000 block of Ventura Drive in Cathedral City as where the threats had been made from.

A school resource deputy identified the teenager as the suspect the next day. Deputies and Cathedral City police officers searched his home and found evidence of the online threats but no weapons, the sheriff’s department said. They arrested the teenager and booked him into juvenile hall.

His name wasn’t released because of his age. The sheriff’s department asked anyone with information about the threats to call Deputy Fongsamout Hohman at 760-836–1600.
