Newcastle United have completed the signing of William Osula from Sheffield United.

“I’m very happy to be here,” Osula said. “It’s a big club, a great club, so I’m very happy for the opportunity to join Newcastle United.

“It’s a great opportunity, and as soon as I heard about Newcastle’s interest, I knew I had to take the chance to join this club if it came. It has come, and I’m really happy to be here.”

The Athletic reported last week that Newcastle had agreed a deal with Sheffield United to sign Osula. Osula emerged as a target for Eddie Howe’s side and will join up with their first-team squad ahead of their upcoming 2024-25 campaign.

“William is a talented young forward with all the attributes to be an exciting player for Newcastle United,” Howe added.

“We have watched his development closely and we are delighted to have the opportunity to work with him in this next step in his career.

“I know our supporters will join me in giving William a very warm welcome to the club and the city.”

Osula is capable of playing as a winger or a lone striker, and made 21 appearances last season as Sheffield United were relegated to the Championship after just one season in the top flight.

He made his first-team debut in the 2023-24 Premier League opener against Crystal Palace.

Osula spent six months on loan at Derby County in 2022, where he scored five goals before returning to Bramall Lane.

The 20-year-old becomes Newcastle’s sixth signing of the summer. The club has already brought in Lloyd Kelly, John Ruddy, Odysseas Vlachodimos, Miodrag Pivas, and former Chelsea loanee Lewis Hall, who has now signed permanently.
