A 25-year old is accused of stealing $100,000 from an Osterville resident in an email scam during a business transaction.

Khaseem Allah, of Albany, New York, was charged with larceny over $1,200 in Barnstable Superior Court Thursday, according to a Barnstable Police Department press release.

Barnstable Police were notified of a “business email compromise” in November that targeted a company that was doing business with the Osterville resident. According to a Barnstable Police press release, the victim was allegedly told, via a compromised email, to redirect a $100,000 payment to an unauthorized account.

After transferring the money, the company notified the victim about the scam.

After an extensive investigation by the Barnstable Police Department Investigative Services Division and the U.S. Secret Service New England Cyber Fraud Task Force, a Barnstable detective traced the transaction to a bank in New York and allegedly Allah.

Allah was taken into custody in Troy, New York. He waived extradition and was arraigned in Barnstable Superior Court. He was held on $50,000 bail and ordered to wear a GPS monitor if bail is posted, according to a Barnstable Police Department press release.
