Fulham have made a £20million bid for Manchester United’s Scott McTominay.

The offer does not meet United’s valuation but the club may be willing to do business at £25m, as McTominay’s sale would go down as pure profit, given he is an academy player. United are not actively pushing him out, but there are realities of balancing the books, with sales needed to raise additional funds for signings.

Fulham are progressing with talks in the belief that McTominay, 27, is open to the move to get a fresh challenge and a more regular starting role. There is also interest in McTominay from Galatasaray. Tottenham Hotspur have been linked but are not considered a realistic destination.

Fulham have raised their bid after previously offering £17m for the Scotland international.

He has one year left remaining on his United contract, although the club can extend this by an extra year. Last month, United manager Erik ten Hag appeared to confirm interest in McTominay, but stated that he wants him to stay.

“We want to actually keep him because he’s a very important player for our squad,” Ten Hag said. “We’ve seen what he can contribute last season. When we had the sixes and he could play in a more advanced role, he’s a highly interesting player for our team.”

Fulham, meanwhile, are looking to strengthen their midfield following the exit of Joao Palhinha to Bayern Munich.

They have also been monitoring Andre from Fluminense, having made an initial offer of €25m (£21.1m), which was rejected. The Brazilian side are seeking a higher fee, and Fulham are yet to submit an improved bid.

United rejected a £30million bid from West Ham United last summer for McTominay, who was also of interest to Fulham at the time.

In 2023-24, McTominay enjoyed the best goalscoring season of his career by netting 10 times in 43 appearances for United.

His goal rate for Scotland has also improved in a similar timeframe with eight goals at international level since March 2023.

The central midfielder made his United debut in April 2017 after being promoted to the first-team squad by then-manager Jose Mourinho.

McTominay joined United aged six in 2002 and has spent the entirety of his career at the club — where he has scored 29 goals across 252 first-team appearances.
