There are 12 teams in the men’s Olympic basketball tournament, split into three groups of four teams:
- Group A: Australia, Greece, Canada, Spain
- Group B: France, Germany, Japan, Brazil
- Group C: Serbia, South Sudan, Puerto Rico, United States
Each team plays three games in the group stage, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals along with two of the three third-placed teams.
The quarterfinal matchups will then be determined by a random draw, with the two highest-seeded teams automatically placed on opposite ends of the bracket. Teams from the same group cannot be drawn against each other. From there, it’s single elimination leading up to the gold-medal game on Aug. 10.
