STILLWATER, Okla. (KFOR) — An Oklahoma college student is recovering from an unexpected dog attack last week. She said it was terrifying and has 100 stitches on her face.

“I’m never going to be the same in my face,” said Cheyenne Brown, who was attacked by a pitbull.

A week ago, Brown was at her friend’s house playing with a dog she’s met before, but said she’s never had issues with in the past.

“I was rubbing the dog’s belly and stuff, and I stopped and he kind of like stood up and I turned to talk to my friend and I turned back. As soon as I turn to the right, he latched, jumped at me,” said Brown.

Brown said she thought it was just a small bite, but her friend’s said otherwise.

“They’re like, oh, we need to get her to the hospital. And I’m like, I’m fine. You know? Like I’m good. And they’re like, no, we got to go, you need to go,” said Brown.

Brown’s friend jumped into action and rushed to Stillwater Medical Center before an ambulance took them both to OU Health in Oklahoma City.

“I can never leave her by herself to go through something like that so serious and to be alone. I couldn’t imagine,” said Skylar Odum, a friend of Brown’s.

Brown said there’s a 6-12 month recovery for her.

She said she loves animals, but hopes her story will prompt others to be cautious.

“It does hurt when I eat, like going to eat like solid food. I can’t brush my teeth because of the stitches. So that sucks too,” said Brown.

Stillwater Police said the dog is in quarantine.

They sent News 4 a statement with regards to the incident.

On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 5:01 a.m., Stillwater Police Department (SPD) responded to Stillwater Medical Center regarding a dog bite investigation. Officers contacted the victim in the emergency room as she was being treated. The victim stated she was hanging out with a friend and petting the dog when it bit her, causing severe injuries to her face. SPD officers followed up the owner of the dog who is also the victim’s friend and was able to confirm that the dog had not been rabies vaccinated for two years. Stillwater Animal Welfare (SAW) was brought in and took over the investigation regarding the dog. SAW officers advised the owner of the quarantine procedure, which is isolation for to 10 days post bite at licensed vet. Officers have remained in contact with the dog owner and are ensuring the animal is following the protocol for rabies quarantine at a licensed vet facility. This case is still under investigation by Stillwater Animal Welfare as a division under the Stillwater Police Department.
