Everton tell Manchester United they will not sell Jarrad Branthwaite unless transfer valuation met

Everton have informed Manchester United they do not intend to sanction Jarrad Branthwaite’s exit this summer, irrespective of their proposed takeover by the Friedkin Group (TFG) collapsing.

The Athletic reported on Friday that TFG’s deal for Everton was off, plunging the Premier League club back into a precarious financial situation.

It raised speculation Branthwaite may need to be sold and that United could yet land a target for whom they have seen two offers turned down.

But Everton view this development as changing nothing in regard to the 22-year-old centre-back and maintain that his departure will not even be considered unless their valuation is satisfied.

This has been relayed to United, with further approaches not welcome at Goodison Park.

Everton believe the transfer fees commanded for defenders like Harry Maguire, Wesley Fofana and Josko Gvardiol in recent years are the benchmark.

Their need to trade has been reduced by the impending exit of Amadou Onana to Aston Villa. If additional funds are required, the plan would be to let players such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin leave before England international Branthwaite.

The Athletic reported earlier this month that Everton rejected an improved offer from United of £45million plus £5m in add-ons.

That came after United’s opening offer of £35m and £8m in add-ons was immediately rebuffed.

United retain their interest but any move would require Everton to lower their asking price.

The Old Trafford side have already recruited defender Leny Yoro from Lille, while Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt is among their options.

Raphael Varane left United when his contract expired and Willy Kambwala has joined Villarreal.
