Noah Kahan will take another shot at performing at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy after storms forced the folk-pop superstar to postpone his show Saturday.

The new date for the concert that was supposed to happen July 13 is now Sept. 11, a Wednesday, the venue announced on social media Monday afternoon. All previously purchased tickets will be honored. Refunds are available through the point of purchase.

Kahan drew a sold-out crowd to the 37,000-person-capacity venue on Saturday, one of the largest audiences for any performer in Wisconsin this year. Kahan posted on X Saturday that it was going to be the “biggest show of my life.”

But incoming storms prompted venue operator Live Nation to call for the lawn to be evacuated at 8:07 p.m. Saturday, before Kahan or his opener Jensen McRae took the stage. The weather remained clear, and the lawn full, for nearly an hour, despite repeated calls for evacuations.

Shortly after 9 p.m., lightning, high winds, thunder and heavy rain started rolling into the area, with people still on the lawn taking shelter in their cars, the expo building or under the covered section closest to the stage that accommodates about 7,500 seats. The storms continued at varying intensities though early Sunday morning.

The show was officially postponed at 10:15 p.m., but that was hardly the only bad news for Kahan fans at Alpine. Phone and internet connections were nearly non-existent for the majority of fans packed at the venue in rural Walworth County. Egress onto the county roads beyond the venue is often a challenge, but the weather made it worse (I was stuck in my car for nearly two hours before finally being able to exit one of the lots at 12:37 a.m. Sunday morning. Several concertgoers expressed intense complaints on the venue’s social media channels.

“Hard to describe how bummed I am for all the people who had to turn around and drive home without a show last night,” Kahan posted on X Sunday morning. “I was really bummed, too, this was going to be our biggest one ever. I promise we will be back to make it happen as soon as we can reschedule.”

This makes two of the three concerts that have taken place at Alpine Valley so far this year that were affected by storms. Dave Matthews Band had to postpone their June 22 concert, the closing performance of a two-night run at the venue, because of storms. Dave Matthews Band played a make-up date on June 30.
