The New York Yankees are calling up infield prospect Jorbit Vivas, a team source confirmed. Infielder J.D. Davis is being placed on the 10-day injured list. Davis was spotted wearing a wrap on his back during this most recent series against the Tampa Bay Rays. SNY’s Andy Martino was the first to report the transaction.

Rated as the Yankees’ No. 15 prospect by MLB Pipeline, Vivas has played both second and third base in the minors this season. The 23-year-old has accumulated 356 career games at second and 129 at third base throughout his minor-league career. Vivas, along with relief pitcher Victor González, was acquired by the Yankees this offseason in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers for infield prospect Trey Sweeney.

In 37 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Vivas posted a 122 wRC+ and .404 on-base percentage. Since returning from the injured list in early June, Vivas has been one of the most productive hitters across minor-league baseball, posting a 1.080 OPS with five home runs.

It’s unclear how the Yankees plan to use him. With both Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu struggling this year, it’s possible that either of those players could see their roles reduced if the organization views it as necessary to give Vivas everyday playing time upon his call-up.

“Elite contact skills,” Yankees minor-league hitting coordinator Joe Migliaccio said of Vivas. “Elite zone discipline. Power plays up. Works extremely hard.”

This story will be updated.
